Community Friendly Movement

India

Based in New Delhi, India, Community Friendly Movement (CFM) works with artisans across the country to revive and strengthen traditional Indian craft culture, and to reduce the number of intermediaries while selling artisan products in the global market. As the international exportation of Indian handicrafts has increased over the years, artisans’ wages have decreased. CFM aims to reestablish fair wages for artisans while continuing to sell handmade, fair trade products in the international market. Twenty-two producer communities, including wood and lacquer, block-printing, and embroidery communities, bring variety to the products and opportunity to hundreds of artisans.

Artisan Voices

“Because of my regular income my husband also acquired higher skills required for his trade, was promoted to supervisor and got Rs. 6,000 per month. Now I earn a fixed income of Rs. 4,500 per month, which is enough to feed the family and to provide better education to my 2 children.”
