Calyz Textiles

India

Calyz is a social enterprise based in India that was founded in 2006. Women employed through Calyz are found through rural self-help groups, a system created by Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Mohammad Yunus. By mixing traditional textile crafts with modern design, artisans are able to improve their lives with independent work that can be done from home or within a community center. Women from lower-income groups are counseled on being financially independent by saving and investing their supplementary income. Caylz hires women without a background in textile production, and provides free training sessions to teach them the skills needed to produce elegant designs. All products are made using eco-friendly dyes and natural materials, and both the training and production fosters community in women who may lead solitary lifestyles.
