Sabahar

Ethiopia

Sabahar is a World Fair Trade Organization member social enterprise whose mission is to preserve Ethiopia's ancient weaving and spinning traditions and contribute to its development by providing reliable employment and equitable pay for hundreds of artisans. Sabahar currently employs 50 people at its workshop in Addis Ababa and engages another 100 artisans who spin and weave by hand in their own homes or in cooperatives around the city.

"Damma" means "honey" in the Ethiopian language of Oromo, which is fitting for this sweet and soft double-layered blanket. The best part about this piece is that it provides two layers of cushioning but folds and bundles small enough to pack in your diaper bag. Available in grey, blue and pink, this hand woven throw can be used as a baby blanket, play mat, spread atop a crib mattress, or kept close by for life's unplanned moments. One side is a solid with the white stitched design, the reverse is natural cotton with an accent of color. Enjoy two layers of hand woven, super soft, hand spun Ethiopian cotton.
